I’ve just listened to a very thought-provoking radio programme on tackling the decline in children’s reading.
The prospect of a generation of young people who haven’t experienced the joy/pleasure/excitement of becoming engrossed in a good book is a sad one, indeed.

A busman's holiday
Every time I went on holiday to a French or Spanish-speaking country during my 20-year teaching career, I would inevitably return home loaded down with any type of ‘realia’ which could conceivably be used to add a touch of authenticity to my lessons. Menus, timetables, food wrappers, magazines, books, CDs, DVDs all found their way into my suitcase.
